CENTERSTONE has seen many changes since it took over and enhanced Manatee County’s behavior health center, formerly known as Manatee Glens. While continuing their wide range of services to those with mental health issues and addiction, the facility launched a number of behavioral health service delivery innovations that includes the first region-wide, 24-hour behavioral health access and triage center, a behavioral health walk-in clinic and a “hospital without walls” for seriously emotionally disturbed children.

Centerstone is the county's public mental health services provider.
Additionally it is the Baker Act Receiving Center.

Services include Crisis Stabilization, Psychiatric Evaluation,
Psychiatric Treatment and Counseling.

It is evident that in the current economic climate more people are finding it harder to cover living costs, afford health insurance and are struggling to pay for necessary medicines. In addition many people have been denied Social Security or have been waiting for years to be approved and cannot afford prescription costs.

If you do not or cannot work and have low income you should certainly apply for Disability, Medicaid, and Food Stamps.

Other resources include Generics at very low prices that are available from on line pharmacies who cater to low income families, and Patient Assistance programs offered by the Drug Manufacturers.

Help is available:

Martina Atkins has compiled a list of websites that can help with medications and other assistance:

rxoutreach offers assistance with generic medications and benzodiazepines (currently not covered by Medicare's Part D prescription plans); 90 and 180 day supplies are available at very reasonable prices. An individual with an annual income of less than $32,490 would qualify for help.

www.needymeds.org offers brand and generic medications, as well as information on patient assistance programs.

www.myflorida.com/accessflorida is the website for applying for Medicaid, and food stamps and other financial assistance. There is an on-line screening process to determine if you qualify; everyone with low incomes and small assets should fill out the required forms for application.

www.ssa.gov is the website for applying for disability; it is important to give as much information as possible, since one-word answers are generally insufficient for success with the process.

When applying for these programs you will need to provide information such as proof of household income, assets, Medical Records etc., It is important for you to keep copies of all information sent to any of the above.

Most of the Drug Manufactures offer Free Medicines to those that can prove Low Income. Enter the name of the Prescription Drug into your search engine to ascertain the manufacturer, and locate their home page. You should find a link to their assistance programs.

Martina will be pleased help you further with these programs including how to apply. You can contact her via the NAMI Manatee county HELP LINE (941) 758 3562
